Background:
Clive Sheward formed our
company in 2004 and is still the lead consultant.
The following is an open
letter from Clive Sheward.
I Joined the British Bank of the Middle
East as soon as I left full time education. This bank was a subsidiary of the
HSBC but operated independently at the time and was a
wonderful teaching institution. There you were given
responsibility at a very early age and expected to grow up
fast. For example I ran my fist branch aged 21.
I was
posted to the Middle East when I was 20 (the youngest
person to be sent at that time), completing
my Bankers Exams a year later, again I think the youngest
person to achieve this. As the Middle East grew my
banking career moved further East to
Hong Kong and Singapore before ending as the CEO of
the Bank of
Maldives in 2000.
I have
been responsible for the
selection and subsequent implementation of major IT systems
at numerous different banks including Emirates Bank
Pakistan where I was Country Manager. I ran the largest
foreign bank in Pakistan. I implemented an on-line
system at our nine branches which stretched from Karachi to
Peshawar, over a thousand miles apart. In the Maldives
I implemented a new IT system within eight months from
arrival to ‘go-live’, plus the introduction of the first
ATMs to the country. It gave me great pride to have
delivered these projects on time and on budget.
Throughout
my career
Islamic Banking has been first a focus and then a
specialism. I introduced our first Islamic Banking
product to Jeddah in 1985 before most people had even heard
of the concept. From 1988 to 1990 I worked in London for Al
Baraka International Bank, an Islamic Bank, where again I installed a new Sharia
compliant IT system incorporating many Islamic
products and features.
The
references I received included describing me as someone with
"absolute integrity, a high sense of loyalty, considerable banking expertise and managerial skills".
Descriptions which I always aim to aspire to whenever or
wherever I am working.
As a
result of these achievements when I left banking I was
approached by the renowned banking software company Misys to
assist them implement their Equation software system. With this approach I
have managed to expand my area of experience to Romania the Philippines and Russia.
Recently
I have been working in Beirut, assisting with a major
IT implementation. Although I do get time to fulfilling my
hobby of motor-cycling around the world.
I love
what I do and I am seeking to expand
my
consultancy business.
