CS  Associates was established by Clive Sheward in 2003 when he decided to purchase some property in Portugal. He had visited Portugal on many occasions prior to this and discovered a largely unspoilt and un-discovered area in the centre of Portugal just south of the city of Coimbra.

The area in question is located around the Castle City of Panela,  a small enchanting market town with a picture Card Castle perched on top of a hill. The town has a small number of shops providing the basics and a lovely swimming pool plus a couple of banks each with ATMs and a couple of small coffee shops selling excellent coffee and cakes.!  This area is really beautiful, hilly but not mountainous, cooler in summer but not cold, sunny in winter and surrounded by Vineyards and Olive groves.  The area has an abundance of local  restaurants where two can eat with a bottle of wine for under £12, where the locals are extremely friendly (especially toward the Brits) and the University town of Coimbra is about 15 miles away.

Coimbra is the third city of Portugal, not large but it has all the shops one needs (except Ikea perhaps!). It is best described as the Oxford of Portugal, situated on a picturesque river with the oldest University in the country. The University was founded in 1290 by King Dinis, and is steeped in history. A lovely town, it has a large pedestrian shopping area with many small lanes leading off the central area up the hill to the University, but with several large shopping complexes on the outskirts.

Further west about 40 miles away is the coast, or The Silver Coast as it is known, which stretches from Lisbon to Porto and centred around the seaside town of Figueira da Fos. This town has several large white sandy beaches and is the main tourist destination for the Portuguese in the summer. Here you can get all the usual summer time activities, sailing, skiing, bars, discos etc and is about an hours drive from Panela.

To the East of Panela you have a number of valleys and hills ideal for walking or riding, an area largely unspoilt with many small towns and villages, Gois, Lousa and Miranda do Corvo to name but a few. If the weather is hot a swim in the river at Gois just above the bridge is highly recommended, very refreshing indeed.!

So having discovered this area in early 2000 Clive decided to build a house here and then as he got to know the area better purchased some building plots and properties which he thought would appeal to people in the UK. It should also be mentioned that this area is considered to have huge potential for growth in the coming years and any investment at this time could thus be doubly rewarding!!.
